I firmly believe your child receives the best education when you and I work as a team. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. Email is best.
Class Information – Keep this in your folder all year.
Classroom expectations: All expectations must be followed to earn a “1” in citizenship.
- Come to class prepared to work (and participate). This includes completing homework.
- Be respectful to teachers, substitutes, and peers.
- Put forth your BEST EFFORT and remain on-task for the entire class.
- Before leaving the classroom, clean your area and wait for me to dismiss you.
- Follow all rules listed in agenda (keep electronics OFF, follow dress code,….)
- If you need to use the rest room you must come straight to class, unpack, and get permission
from me before the bell rings.
Consequences: Failure to meet expectations will result in a written warning. Repeated warnings result in a referral to the office. Some serious infractions result in an immediate referral. Refer to the discipline matrix in the Student Agenda.
At Home Expectations: Complete homework without distractions. This means turn off all electronics so you can concentrate. Put effort into understanding the material. If you have trouble look at your notes, search online for a video (youtube.com or schooltube.com) or use some links, videos or practice worksheets by clicking my link on the BRMS webpage or my website at http://pittmanmath.weebly.com Other helpful websites are: www.math.com www.brightstorm.com/math/algebra and www.ixl.com (I recommend 8th grade C1 and C7 to practice integers).
Grades: Parents and students should check the grade website (FOCUS) at least weekly. If you have not signed up please do so today. A parent must register online at https://focus.manateeschools.net/auth/ and fax the form provided to school (941-751-7085) or have the student turn it to the front office.
Pre-Algebra Algebra Honors
Tests/Quizzes: 65 % of grade 70 % of grade
Class Work/Notes: 10 % of grade 10% of grade
Homework: 25 % of grade 20% of grade
Algebra Honors: Exams are 30% of their Semester Grade. Students earn an
extra .5 credit toward their G.P.A. since this is an Honors course.
TUTORING: The schedule is posted in the classroom and on the school website. I also offer extra tutoring as needed, especially during difficult lessons and prior to tests. These will be posted in advance in the room and on Instagram.
Homework: Each Monday students will write their assignments in their agenda. I will also post them on Instagram (Mrs._Pittman) and have a homework link on my website. Homework is graded on completion (completed (100%), or incomplete/ no work shown (0%). Assignments marked REDO are due the next school day. Late work is NOT accepted. Students must show all work for credit. Write problems out vertically (down) on their paper with the answer boxed in or circled. Write in pencil only. Head all papers with your name, period, and page/problem numbers in the right hand corner. One test retake allowed per quarter during 1st Semester only. Retakes must be completed before the next scheduled quiz or test. Arrangements to take the test before or after school must be prearranged with me. The two tests will be averaged so students must study for it to help their grade.
Absences: It is the STUDENT’s responsibility to make up assignments and turn them in. They should watch an online video for the lesson they are missing or attend tutoring. Search the topic listed at the top of the homework assignment. Work is due in a period of time equal to the total number of days absent. Write “absent” at the top of your paper and place it in the wooden in box.
Supplies: BUY EXTRA NOW WHILE THEY ARE CHEAP
Wish List: Jolly Ranchers or other hard candy is greatly appreciated. The students are highly motivated by math games and activities. Other useful items include: tissues, thin expo markers, or copy paper (even used paper with one blank side). You may also make a tax deductible cash/check donation to BRMS Math for general supplies. Even a $ 1.00 donation is helpful. If you make a cash/check donation please put your child’s name on it so I know who to give the receipt to.
Algebra 1 Honors Students: This is a rigorous course and the grade will be a permanent part of their High School GPA. Students must be self-motivated, complete homework on a regular basis and study for tests. They are skipping 7th and/or 8th grade so they must put in the extra effort to be successful. This is essential in order to have a strong math foundation for future courses.
Pre-Algebra Math Students: Most high schools require a grade of “A” in order to take Algebra Honors in 9th grade. Put forth your best effort all year.
I look forward to making this year a successful one for your child.
